In celebration of the school year coming to an end, I am asking all of you to not throw away all your partially-used school supplies and instead donate them to the sukaabe (Pulaar word for kids) here in Thilogne.

Over the summer vacation I will be collecting notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons, colored pencils, rulers, and any other schools supplies that are easy to send, and I will distribute them myself to the elementary school kids and teachers when school starts back up in October or November (the start date depends on whether or not the teachers and the Ministry of Education can come to an agreement on salary).

You can send things new or used throughout the summer (see ‘Contact Me’ for my address), although if you would like to send crayons, I advise waiting until September, when it cools down, so they don’t melt.

5 Reasons to Donate:

1. You’ve thought about giving to Africa but were skeptical of the corrupt ‘middle men’ involved.

2.  You want to encourage and motivate kids here to work hard and stay in school.

3.  You want to show the kids that people in other parts of the world care about them and want them to succeed.

4.  You never know the outer most ripple of a small act of kindness.

5.  You want to put a smile on a kid’s face who has never received a present on his or her birthday and has never seen gift from Santa.
